The A’Tonement Project (TAP)

In partnership with Jahaur Abraham and Edward Ford, TAP is a pioneering prison initiative. Our goal? To reduce violence and mentor individuals, instilling values that foster character, integrity, and purpose.

The A’Tonement Project (TAP) trio developed a response to reduce senseless violence that festers in neighborhoods and often vacillates between the DC Jail and the DC community.

TAP implements a 3-pronged method - 1) Engage; 2) Prepare; 3) Lead – centered around the Programs’ Core Principles to support the peace initiative within the walls of the DC Jail, while strategically impacting public safety in the District of Columbia. The program guides approximately 120 – 160 men in maximum security through a rigorous self-development training to redirect the crew/gang mentality to a civic minded community mentality.

TAP requires access to the facility on Monday, Wednesday & Friday to engage 2 small groups of 15 - 20 participants in four 12-week cohorts. TAP will run for a total of 48 weeks (October 2, 2023 – September 30, 2024) and each cohort will conclude with the participants receiving a certificate of completion. Ten percent of TAP graduates will be recruited as Conflict Resolution Specialist to assist with conflict that may arise in the DC jail.
